Well a friend got 2 permit's for the last day at CECIL WEBB WMA and we went out the evening before to find a tree to put the climbers on we located 2 trees pretty quick so opening morning we get to the trees around 5:15am get up around 15 ft in the pine and turned the Therma Cell on (what a life saver) and a few minutes later no mosquitoes settle in for a Long sit and wait till day light after day light I looked and found out there was someone 142 yds to my left and I also noticed he was at full draw then I herd him release then I see a doe running right at me then it stops about 60 yds from my stand and starts to walk towards my stand and ends up walking behind my stand at 20 yds well I couldn't draw till it was about 40 yds from me and I missed shot right under her belly my buddy was a lot closer to me than we expected, he was only about 50 yds to my right she was walking right to his stand but i didn't know this as I thought he was further away than he was so she ran a few yards and continued on her way he took a shot at her and also fell short then about 30 min later he radioed me and informed me there was another deer walking towards the road I finally spotted it finally it decided to walk towards me and my buddy it was taking the same trail the doe took which would of put it about 20yds behind my stand but my buddy decided to take a shot at the deer and again missed. it was a button buck upon closer inspection through the binoculars it ran away from me and I watched it for about 10 min around 80 yds behind me then it walked to the guy that was to my left who shot at it and missed even though it didn't sound like it then he got another shot at him but as far as he could tell he missed no blood on the arrow and no blood on the ground finally it slowed down for a lil while when I see 3 deer around 200 yds out in the corner of the field and I tried to call them in with no luck while I am doing this my buddy is getting out of his stand so I radioed him and told him I still see deer feeding so he just squatted on the ground surrounded by palmettos so he couldn't see anything while I was paying attention I had 3 deer walk within 20 yds of my buddy on the ground but I didn't realize it and he didn't hear them so I watched them walk towards the road so I called to them and they decided to turn and look to see where that came from and they called back to me that was a first and was pretty awesome to hear they walked about 60 yds from the back of my stand towards the field to my left where the other guy was he was fixin to take a shot at one of them when they spooked and ran off and then I saw 2 other deer playing on the edge of the field then they disappeared so I stayed in the stand for about another 30- 45 min and nothing else so between the heat and the action dying down I got out of the stand around 10:45 and returned to the stand at 3:00 pm and I decided to move closer to the road as some of the deer were walking closer to the road than to me so I got up around 20 ft in this tree it was HOT when I left the truck the thermometer was reading 99 in the sun and shortly after in the stand my buddy radioed me and told me he saw a doe on the edge of the palmettos about 300 yds away he watched her for about a hour and a half she walked3d close to him again he shot and missed I guess he cant hit the broad side of a barn LOL she ran a few feet and started coming to me so I was at full draw when she got 25 yds from me then she turned away from me and got behind some brush so I didn't have a clear shot at her so she was feeding around in the brush as I watched her she turned and started to take a trail that would of taken her about 10 yds from my stand when I see a truck slowly driving down the road with 2 guys on the back of the truck with bows they drive past where the doe was then stop and get out so I was waving my arms and trying to get there attention that I was hunting here when they shoot her right in front of me Then I yell "THANKS FOR SHOOTING MY DEER" and all they said is they were sorry that is the way they archery hunt so needless to say I was pissed and got out of my stand and confront them and explain that they have no Hunter Ethics they said they had no idea where I was even though my truck was right next to them when they shot the doe I said to them what would of happened if I was on the ground in a blind or if I was stalking this deer and they missed and hit me, There response was that wouldn't of happened so when they recover the deer they drag it out to the road and it was still kicking they refused to finish it off what great Ethics they had they they gut it right on the road not on the side of the road so I was so pissed at this point I ended my evening hunt and called my buddy to come to the truck and he was already on the way thinking they had a problem so he was hurrying up so I had back up thank god I never needed it so we went to the check station and I explained what happened and they said that shooting off the road is legal but not Ethical especially in that situation so they said they would look for the truck when they came out and make sure they checked the deer out and also radioed the warden that was out there and told him to look for the truck to see if they had alcohol and to explain how the situation could of turned TRAGIC. What pisses me off the most is I spent all that time in a stand for someone to drive down the road and shoot the deer from under me and then for them to say that is the way to archery hunt that just irks me. Let me know what you think? Besides all that I saw 10 deer in one day that is a first for me I have never seen more than 2 from my stand in one day so I am happy about that.
