I'm not picky my wife and I have been saving points I have three she has four. I would just like for her to be able to shoot one to put on the wall22" plus. O.K me too . I was puting in for points and drew the warner tag first try . I was fairly disapointed by the few deer there were there. I had to work my but off for a 18" three point. I only saw one nice buck in all the camps . Most were shooting forked horns and spikes. But to pick a preference I love spot and stock so probably sage and open country.

Ok if you want to hunt the sage country I think I can help. Like all hunts, the place's I tell you wont be easy like go out and shoot a huge buck, you Will have to work at it. When I think of sage I think of four different units. The areas I list are areas that I have hunted so i know of some spots to hunt there.Starting with the best.
The Northside unit is a "keep secret" unit. This unit carries some HUGE mule deer. There will be tons of walking and the spoting scope will come handy. It can be very steep here and it can also be in the flats.
The Grizzly unit is wide open country and can carry some big deer. You have to take your time on this hunt. There is alote of hunters in this unit but there is also alote of game. Grizzly unit is also a very big unit. So there is enough room for everyone. But be carefull with this unit there is a good amount of privite property. But if you learn the area you should get your buck.
The Fort Rock Unit and silver lake unit is a very good unit if the conditions are right. That means there has to be snow in the cascades to push the deer down. I have went over there after a good snow storm and there were deer every where. Big bucks left and right. Also something else good about these two units is that they are side by side and the Silver Lk unit usely has left over tags. So if you put in for your Fort Rock tag and draw it you can by a left over tag and hunt both units.Remeber you can still only take ONE buck a year.
Hope this helps a little.

I have family that rifle hunts the Strawberries when they can draw a tag. They backpack in there a ways but they always do very well over there. They havent taken any monsters but they always pull out good 4pts each year they hunt there.

I prefer my rifle to hunt with. But if I don't draw my tags than I have NO problem going bow hunting. I love them both. Which do you prefer?
Yea I have heard some good things about the strawberries. I have never had the chance to hunt there but maybe someday I will give her a shot.

Personally I found that it wasn't fair(to me) to hunt elk with a rifle. I rifle hunted my first three years and never shot an elk over 20 yrds away so I started bow hunting and fell in love with it. As for deer I have only killed two with a bow they seem to be real hard for me for some reason. So I tend to rifle hunt deer. I spent my first seven years hunting the straw berries and I love it over there but never for deer just elk. I saw some big bucks on the malhuer side but never could find them during rifle season so I gave up.

See I dont have that kind of luck with elk. I have been hunting them for about 4 years now. This past year was the first time I got a real good opportunity to harvest one. Mule deer I get mine every year. Rifle or bow. I hunted elk only once with my bow and I loved it. I had a couple of chances but decieded to hold out.

better safe than sorry. It is good to hear that some hold out for better opportunities than wounding animals(if that is what you were saying). Even like deer elk are better hunted in the rut . It makes them kinda dumb in a way. that is why i love to bow hunt them. If rifle season was in the rut I would rifle hunt them alot more.

Another unit that gets over looked is Interstate. Went this year and shot a fork opening morning. I saw a lot of game and have seen much bigger bucks on scouting trips. I hunt above Paisley and do not see hardley anybody. Saw 1 other camp and 2 other trucks it was like I had the mountain to myself. I would say take a scouting trip and check it out. If during spring and early summer all the deer are in the fields down off the mountain so you will not see any game on the hill.

We went through Paisley a couple summers ago on the way to scout N. Warner. Looked like nice country. But the one thing that scares me is they have a mosquito festival..... that just aint right lol. jk
But seriously that sounds like it might be nice to check out. thanks
