A few years back Oregon passed a law saying No person shall use dogs for the taking or pursuit of cougars.
What are your opinions with using dogs?

I think dogs were the best management toll they had. I also think that they will have to protect deer and elk becuase they will be in short numbers if cougars aren't controlled. (just like sea lions then came salmon.)But maybe that is the environ-----MENTLE groups plan, let one species wipe out another for protection rights. We did a way better job with dogs.

I only hope that in the near future they figure out a way to usurp that stupid law and allow dogs to be used again. Cats and bears alike are getting way out of hand. The balance is just not there and the deer and elk herds are suffering. With the loss of habitat they get pushed into smaller and smaller areas where the predators have easy pickings. Id also like to see baiting of bears reinstated as well.

You guys said it right on the dot. They should bring back dogs and baiting. Cougars can take up to one deer or elk a week. And whats are cougar population up to now. WAY too many. I personally don't care that are cougars population are one of the states success stories. Get there number back down. I care a lot more for our elk, deer, and livestock.

The ODFW have picked 3 different counties, and for the life of me I can not remember which ones, but they will going to thin out the cougar population and will be using tracking dogs. I saw it on the news last night and remember all 3 are eastern Oregon. It seems a little strange to me that people have let the numbers get so out of hand that the animals just have to be killed for population control when there are hunters who are willing to spend money and hunt the same way and they can not do it!!!

It would be very interesting indeed if the people who put these laws on the books had to go up for reelection they would probably sing a different tune if the voting hunters had any thing to say about how missmanaged the system is looking

Unfortunately, that dumb law has been on the books long enough now that most people don't have any cougar dogs anymore. Now they want to hire Federal hunters WITH DOGS.

I just recieved an e-mail from the president of the Oregon Trappers Association, and apparently the State has propositioned the Feds to kill our cougars. When I get a chance I will send along the link to give the feds feedback from state residents. The feedback forum is supposed to be open until mid April. In the letter I got from the feds, they seem really excited about this. Not a good thing for us. We really need to petition them and let them know we disaprove. I don't want our state to turn into another California.

That doesn't sound good at all. Post the link so we can respond to it. That's the last thing we need.
