SO how important is a good pair of field glasses? I own a pair that I bought for 40 dollars and they seem to do just fine. I have seen them go for hundreds of dollars but I cant find a good reason do buy something that cost that much. If the animal is that far away I use my rifle scope. And thats where I like to put my money, is in the scope.

I have a pair of Bushnell 10x42 binocs that are great. They gather alot of light at dawn and dusk and allow me to see when others cant. I also like the size of them, not to big and not to small. I think that you can use the high dollar ones to get a good crisp field of view so that you can tell if the animal is worth stalking or shooting.

i just received my new binos today. i bought a pair of Leupold Wind River Pinnacles 10x42. i paid 398.00 for them. thats about 130-150 less than what youd see them in a store for. my last pair was a 110 dollar pair of Alpen which are now my sons. the difference between those and my new pair is night and day. with my new pair i can focus them down to 5ft which is great when you are stalking an animal and need to pick the brush apart. plus the clarity. a good pair of binos will save you a headache during a long day of glassing. then the light gathering. being able to spot a deer or elk just at first light is very valuable. plus living here in oregon you need a good pair of waterproof binos. thats just something you dont get in a cheap pair of binos. when you get a chance to look at them side by side youll see just what you are missing. a good pair of binos is a lifetime investment just like a good rifle is.

Very interesting archer. I cant say I have ever had a REAL expensive pair of bino's. I look at it this way. If I am hunting a canyon and doing some spot and stalk I have my spoting scope, if I am hunting my way down and see something off in the distance I would use my rifle scope. And if I see something at a closer range I than pick up my binos. That set up works real well for me. But maybe I should look into some real expensive binos. Maybe that would start putting bigger horns on them. ;D

BB,,, Consider the use of that rifle scope ,,,as a optic on a gun. not a spotting scope or a pair of bino's. I have been "scoped" while out in the woods before and let me tell you,it was a very, very uncomfortable position to be in. I was watching a small buck feed not 20 yards off and saw a glint off something, Took my bino's and got a look ,,right into a rifle muzzle. What do you do? If I got up or waved or made any move the buck was gone. On the other hand I sure wanted that rifle off my head. Well,I decided my skin was more important than buckskin and I drew my rifle and waved and moved my muzzle back in the other guys direction. Immediatly his rifle fell to the ground and he waved back,,LIke SOB,,I am SO SORRY DUDE. Well,,the buck was gone,,my day was ruined,,his day was ruined ..I just backed away til I felt I was safe to turn away and walked-ran back to my truck. I muttered some pretty foul words that day . PLease,,take extreme caution using rifle scopes as spotting scopes..the life you save,,may be mine. Back to the bino's..Leupold ,,Leupold,,yeap Leupold.

Yea 45 I completely understand to where your coming from. Trust me if I anit sure what it is I don't use the scope. The only reason I use it if its an animal. Thats the way I hunt. I have never scope a person on accident. If the scope is on a person, it is there on purpose. ;D ;D And I have yet to scope a person. ;D

I got a 50 dollar pair of nockers and a burris spotting scope. For up close stuff I got some 8x32 little nockers. Seems to do me just fine. You got to have at least one thing that cost alot to justify spending money. That is what I told my wife so I got a nice spotting scope. they rest is pretty expendable caust I am kinda clumsy and forgetfull. I have donated alot of binos to the woods, the critters have at least three pairs of nockers. So they can see us coming!!!!

I bought a new Burris spotting scope too. I took it bear hunting on the 1st but it was too foggy where I wanted to use it. Seems to be good from what I can tell.

I'm kind of cheap and don't like to carry more than I have to. So I have a cheap pair of binos but usually just look through my rifle scope. Works for me.
