SALEM – Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials today announced Oregon will offer Free Fishing Weekend June 10-11. Observed in Oregon each June, Free Fishing Weekend invites Oregon residents and visitors to enjoy a full weekend to fish, crab and clam without a license. All fishing and shell harvest regulations continue to apply. The celebration began in 1988 as a way to encourage more people to become involved in angling and the outdoors. ODFW encourages experienced anglers to make a point of introducing friends, family members and especially children to the fun of fishing throughout the year, and Free Fishing Weekend makes it even easier by allowing people to fish without a license. ODFW and others sponsor Free Fishing Weekend events at sites throughout the state, mostly geared toward introductory angling opportunities for young people. Many of the events are accessible to disabled anglers. Details are available on ODFW’s Web site, www.dfw.state.or.us/Many of the most popular fishing waters around the state are stocked with additional rainbow trout in preparation for Free Fishing Weekend. Interested anglers also are encouraged to use the ODFW Recreation Report, available on the Department’s Web site and updated weekly, to help them select a fishing destination. www.dfw.state.or.us/news/2006/june/001.asp

Just a note , you still have to purchase a salmon steelhead tag to fish for salmon steelhead!! Or to fish in waters open to salmon.

I beat a state cop in court once. He then got me on two minor technicalities later that same year. I now know the regs(hunting and fishing)by heart every year. No bending the rules for me . ;D

It is actually cheaper for someone to buy a 1 day fishing license and be able to catch salmon/steelhead/halibut etc. than to buy a tag. I wonder if someone were to go on free fishing weekend and wanted to fish for those fish if you could still buy a 1 day license for that day?

Yes you can purchase a 1 day license to fish salmon steelhead on free fishing weekend. That is what they recommend for people that want to fish in waters open to salmon. Thanks for posting that EVS. I had forgot that part.
