I am wanting to do some scouting for elk in southern Oregon. What are the best units to check out?

are you looking to hunt the coast or in the cascades?

Either... I just want to go where there are good numbers. I have hunted central coast before so I know the terrain but haven't hunted south at all

If you want this summer let me know and I can show ya around Tioga. Alsea and the sixes are great ones to hunt but very brushy. Oregonarcher has the cascades under control so he can help out more than I can there.!!!!!

the central cascades has a great population of elk. McKenzie, Indigo and the Dixon units all hold great numbers and all produce some great bulls each year. The majority of my hunting in the Cascades is done in the Dixon. The areas around Lemola lake primarially in the Mt Thielson wilderness is great. Another good area is in the Tiller ranger dist. and down around Shady Cove area. If you are planning on hunting with a rifle though Id seriously suggest you stick to wilderness areas and get away from the trails as much as possible.

Perfect... thank you. This gives me a starting place. Looks like I need to take a trip. And I love scouting trips.
