What is up with the bear attacks lately??? Washington hunter got chewed up and lady and 2 kids got attacked and girl died in another state I can't remember. Why do you think this is happening? From my experience, and don't take that the wrong way I don't have a ton when it comes to bears, but everytime I have seen them they are very skittish. Usually see you and bolt. I do have a buddy who had one walk up on him as he was packing a deer out on his back and he had to shoot it but totally different than the two stories above. Any ideas?

No idea.. The only guess is that people anit using there head when going out into bear country. As more and more people are heading to the hills the more chances of bear attacks. USE YOUR HEAD WHEN OUT THERE. And I always carry a side arm when I'm out there.

A couple years ago I had a black bear run right up the middle of the road that I was walking down. I did have a gun due to the fact that it was bear season and I had a tag. I was alone and it scared me, but at the last second it finally saw me and jetted down an embankment and into to the trees. Something or someone had scared it and it was running scared. I do have to agree with B.B, I have a .357 that i will gladly pack on my side when going out in the woods wether I am fishing, camping, or flat out just hiking around. We have the right to bare arms and by golly thats what I'm going to do!!! I also feel that when they took away using dogs it turned alot of people off so they don't get hunted as much as they use to controlling more of the population.

We are over populated in oregon!!!!!!!!!!! I have noticed that they are not as skittish as they used to be. As bear numbers increase the likeley hood of people stumbling across bears protecting food and cubs is increasing. I think if they continue the protection you will see more and more encounters some violent ,most not. When I started hunting I was lucky to even see a bear in the wild, but now it isn't uncommon to see two or three every other time I go into the woods. I think people do need to smarten up,as does the government. The environmentalists shoved a bunch of rare video footage in the media and convinced the big cities that we were doing bad and not good. It is in my ohnest opinion that if the city folk are going to go out in the woods unprepared and un educated let the bears eat them. It was there decision to stop the controll the oregon hunters had on the population. . I'll stop there before i get into trouble.
