I was wondering how often do you need to restring your bow?

I try to do it once a year. But the best way to tell is to mesure your axle to axle and your brace hiehgt if it isn't what it says it is supposed to be time for a new one!

Well thats a good rule of thumb...... One more question....How often do you wax your string? This will only be my second year hunting with a bow so I am trying to get all the fine details out of the way.

one really good one when i put it up after bow season. Then i do it once a month through 3-d season. Every time i think about it during archery season. It is probably over kill but I havn't broke one yet either..

This is reguarding the waxing!! I had my Hoyt for over five years and it still had the original string, and it was still in good shape. Now I didn't hunt every day of the season, or every season but I did do bowshoots also. I liked to wax my string once a month when I had it out and waxed it before putting it away. Now if I was in eastern oregon hunting I would wax it about everyother day due to the hot temperatures. I don't know if there is such a thing as over waxing but it worked for me!!!! Oh, and one more tip with wax, if you don't already know, but put some wax on the threads of your tips!!! It will make it so they don't get lose when your practicing!!!

I generally replace the string on my main bow twice a year but thats due to excessive shooting.
Others have never had a string replaced.
The recurves maybe every two years.
I wax the string when it needs it which I determine visually by the sheen it displays.

I would echo the advice from every one and add a couple of things. First if you are going to be hunting in the water hole we call western Oregon then I try and wax my string (and lubricate all parts that may rust) prior to going out in and swimming in western Oregon. I don't believe you can ever wax your string to much if it looks like it needs to be waxed then do it. Depending on how much you shoot thought the year changing your string once a year is a good rule of thumb. However, with that said I have had the same string on my Hoyt going on shoot 5 years now. Still shoots consistent and all adjustments are correct. Every year when I store my bows I wax the strings real good and oil everything and then when I get it out to start target shooting I do it again. It hasn't let me down yet and I have been shooting going on 18 years. Good hunting!

Change strings at least once a year on my bows have had winners choice on a AR that had be changed every 4 months when i was shooting alot. Crackers is building my strings now!!! just sent #1 bow in when got the backup back. #1 bows strings were 5 mo. old. i wax bow strings every time i think of it and evry time i take bow out of case durring spot and 3-d season. guess some of us are harder on toys than others. last year i threw a bow in swiming pool for 12 hours then locked it in the cab of a truck for 2 days july when i got the bow out of the truck it was so hot you couldnt hang on to it!!! put a peep in and shot it the strings never did move after that!!! settled them right in
