I got my 1911 combat commander about 9 years ago. Nice shooting piece and never gives me any grief about what I feed it lol. Just havent felt another gun that fits my hand like that.

1911 are a real hard hand gun to beat. I haven't owned one but maybe someday. ;D

I havent shot a double stack magazine auto that i could hit the in side of a barn with standing at the door. Some reason they fit my hand good cuz i got bigger hands but i guess they are too wide. I point way better with a single stack. Had a ruger 9mm and would have been better to throw than shoot, not saying it was a bad gun just not in my hands. L8R

springfeild makes or at least has made double stack 1911's that you can then change the grips, back strap, grip safty and trigger out to make it fit you. the base pistol runs about 650-700 if i remeber right.

Yeah Springfield makes a dang nice 1911. But I kinda like my old one. Its a 70 series and its a little easier to work on if I gotta.

none of the company's that i know of are making the 80's series anymore and the guts in the Springfield's are identical to your old colt

Yeah the Springfield's and Colt stuff interchange.. I love the 1911.. just sold my commander recently tho. It's easier to put in my purse, but I just like the balance better on a full size 1911.
BB I had a .40 Sig (p229) .. I LOVED that thing but loved my Colt better.
At one time I had all kind's, except Glock. I don't care for hammerless auto's
