I have a 30-06 that is too long for me. I wanted to know if when I cut the stock if I should cut it at a certain angle. I will be putting a limbsaver butt pad on it also.

Wrap Masking tape around the stock where you want to cut, this will keep the wood from splintering and the saw from scratching the finish. Mark it where you want it to be on top, then pull a measurement from the end of the butt, then pull that measurement and mark the bottom. Use a flexible straight edge (Folder paper, something thick) and put it on the 2 marks and draw a line using the straight edge.
Then cut the line and you got it.
P.S. It is better to cut it again than to cut it to short.

I don't see where it would hurt it.
