ok ok.... I had been watching this bull for a week. No one else even knew he was there. I tried to stalk him several times and he didn't get that big bieng dumb. Yes he was getting away every time. The third weekend of the season he decided to come out early and play with his cows and another couple of hunters had him spotted! I slowly walked up to them and asked if they wanted to go and try to stalk him. They asked me if I knew how to get to him and i said," sure. After telling them how to get there I told them that I had been trying for a week and he kept sneaking out in this one draw. They then decided the would ambush him in the draw and let me try to get up on him again. I was a little discouraged becaus I wanted to ambush him in the draw. Iknew for a fact that he was going to escape through it. Well I gave in because they did see him first . I grabbed my bow and my step-son and headed around the canyon to try and sneak up on him. As we got within bow range I told my step son to hold back in the trees and wait. BUSTED agian by a cow. Off they went charging up the draw. I cringed at the thought of running the bull right to the other guys. So we went up the hill to watch the show. The first cows went past the other hunters just like clock work.It was a bull only unit so they just held still and watched. Then they stood up and began moving right across th ridge on the skyline. ???The rest of the elk made a 180 and started down into a nasty little canyon. I figured that all was lost and headed back to my rig. About 100yds from my rig I ran across a big freshly chewed up trail. I was disgusted I could of just walked down the hill and waited for him. I then looked back down the trail towards the other hunters who were heading back to there truck, and here came the horns .I was right in his way. My step-son and I took three steps off the trail and hid bhind a tree! As the bull got closer and closer I knew it was going to be close. I whisperd to my step son to lay down and hold still. The bull began to trot right at us for the timber. You ever get the feeling that somthing has to be wrong because this is way to perfect? Well I got to looking around and my only shooting lane was a 16x16 hole through the reprod. The bull was close enough I couldn't re adjust. Well he no sooner got to the opening and he stopped! I drew my bow ever so slowly trying no to make a sound. The bull slowly turned his head looking in the oppisite direction. He was looking at my truck!! I slwoly stood up and landed a perfect heart shot. He didn't even flinch. He just looked around for a min .(seemed like an hour). Then he started to sway and stagger and fell 10 yards from where I shot him ;D. I was in shock for quite a while but then reality set in and I was like a kid in a candy store. Any way we drug him straight to the road whole. For a rutted out bull he was tender and and juicy. Gotta love archery season and how things seem to pan out.
