SALEM-Hunters still seeking a controlled hunt tag can purchase from 933 leftover deer and elk tags on Saturday, July 1 at 10 a.m. PDT. The tags, which tend to sell out in minutes, are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis at more than 500 licensed retailers statewide. ODFW offices will not be open to sell tags on July 1 this year because the date falls on a weekend. The tags will be sold at regular prices for resident and nonresident hunters. Controlled hunts are those where state wildlife officials have limited the number of hunters to improve game management and enhance the hunting experience. Hunting season dates and bag limits still apply. On June 20, ODFW made available the results of a random computer drawing for 134,746 controlled hunt tags. The 933 leftover tags represent instances where available tags outnumbered applicants. Visit the following link or go to ODFW’s web site and click Hunting Resources/Controlled Hunts/Leftover Tags to see what controlled hunts will be on sale July 1. www.dfw.state.or.us/resources/hunting/big_game/controlled_hunts/Leftover_tags.asp
